Kamna Singh

India

Kamna Singh is an Indian writer, translator, and anti-caste art practitioner. Her work explored language, silence, and meaning, rooted in challenging caste structures and amplifying marginalised voices. At Serai, she worked on Melanin Memoir: Cast(e)ing the Body, an autobiographical text. The project traced her journey as a Dalit woman navigating caste, identity, and self-acceptance. Her practice brought together writing, research, and visual storytelling with care and precision.

Maryam Kakar

Afghanistan

Maryam Kakar is an Afghan artist and writer based in India. Her work explored memory, displacement, and cultural preservation through visual and narrative forms. At Serai, she created work centred on stories of her homeland. Drawing from traditional patterns and symbols, she reflected on identity and loss. Her practice held space for memory while building bridges across cultures.

Mortada Gzar

Iraq

Mortada Gzar is an Iraqi novelist, filmmaker, journalist, and visual artist. His work spans literature, cinema, and political commentary, with an international presence. At Serai, he was selected to work on his new novel.

Vinay Kumar

India

Vinay Kumar is a writer and teacher based in India. His work engages with cinema, food, literature, and popular culture. At Serai, he worked on a family memoir centered on a Dalit wake tradition. The project focused on documenting Dalit joy, celebration, and everyday life.
